Noël Barriol has devoted over 40 years to the development of mobility, serving in a number of management positions at Transdev where he managed infrastructure and transport projects with a special focus on customer service and innovation. He now works as an independent consultant (Noel Barriol Mobility Consult), placing his expertise in strategy, organisation and management at the disposal of individuals, local authorities and businesses as well as providing training and advice across the mobility sector. Here, he looks back at his 2022 award:
“Winning the 2022 Talent in Mobility Special Career Service Award was a genuine recognition of the years I’ve committed to developing mobility. My role has been to manage infrastructure and transport system projects, putting users and clients first so as to meet their expectations. Team management has been a key factor in the success of these projects. Winning the 2022 Talent award has been a source of pride for me and my loved ones, and serves as an example of what a career in Transdev can be like. Today, after a career spanning over 40 years, I’ve been able to build on this experience and recognition to set up ‘Noel Barriol Mobility Consult’, supporting various entities and organisations by providing mobility development expertise and consultancy services.”

Noël first entered the world of transport in 1984 with a summer job at STAS, Transdev’s Saint-Etienne subsidiary, and went on to work his way up through all the ranks of a transport network; today he is Production Director for Transdev Valence and Director of Transdev Drôme. He is one of the very few employees to have started out at STAS as a temporary driver and then do most other jobs on all forms of transport (except the metro) before becoming the boss of a business unit that he himself set up. His commitment, enthusiasm for the business, and inquisitiveness enabled him to become head of operations and then head of production. His ability to anticipate led to him playing a major role in the modernisation of the CITEA network in Valence. Today, he is a go-to person on the issue of energy transition; his expertise in biogas and electric vehicles is widely acclaimed throughout the Group. His career illustrates his ability to go beyond his comfort zone and make the most of the opportunities and trainings provided by the Group. “Passion”, “drive”, and “personable” are the words that keep coming up when people refer to his career. After 40 years spent at Transdev, Noël is planning to retire soon, but not before taking up a final challenge with typical energy and enthusiasm: the forthcoming renewal of the Valence Romans operating contract. Our congratulations and thanks to Noël for your outstanding career with Transdev.
